Within the Ruins is the seventh hard skirmish of Valkyria Chronicles 4. This uses the same map as Chapter 14: Azure Flame. It is unlocked after the first six hard skirmishes have been completed.

Location: Frozen Ruins
Description: Escape the enemy ambush by getting the Hafen to its destination. Visibility will be poor at nighttime, and the enemy has set up a strong frontward line of defense. Use the structures for guerrilla warfare.

This is an escort mission for the Hafen. The mission can be extremely easy if you abuse Orders such as Fortify Treads, Fortify Armor.
With the Fortify Treads activated, the Hafen doesn't need to worry about AP going to zero after being hit by a grenadier unit. Anyways the best approach would probably to clear the mission in three turns. It is possible to do it in two, but since there is an enemy ace near the end of the map, you might want to have some CP saved to finish the enemy ace as well. If you find the Hafen is too weak to take any incoming damage, you can use the Order, Inspiration on the Hafen to greatly boost its stats.
Anyways, start the mission by deploying your leader units, you also want some shocktroopers to guard the main camp.
- Turn 1
Use the Order Fortify Treads, Fortify Armor. Then move the Hafen until it runs out of AP, make sure you use your shots on any AT Cannons you see on the way. On the last turn of the Hafen, use a smoke round near the Hafen to prevent enemies from seeing you.
Then use Kai to snipe the nearby Grenadier. Then switch to Raz and have him rush to the east side of the map and use a flamethrower to kill the two enemies hiding in the nearby sandbag.
- Turn 2
On the next turn, use the same order Fortify Treads and Fortify Armor as before, then keep moving the Hafen as far as it can. Make sure the Hafen use a smoke round on itself before you switch to other characters.
Now take control of Minerva and have her and go northeast corner, there should be a stair that will lead you to the top. Kill any enemies you encounter on the way here, if you manage to get all the way to the west side of the map, you can find a grenadier ace there. Killing this ace will give you the VB GW 6(e) mortar.
- Turn 3
On the next turn, use the Hafen and use the two orders, Fortify Treads, Fortify Armor and continue to the destination point to complete the mission.
