State of the War is a mechanic in Valkyria Revolution that works similarly to morale in the Valkyria Chronicles series.
Overview[]
The State of the War is represented by a gauge on the top of the screen during missions with the Kingdom of Jutland on the left and the Ruzi Empire on the right, with a blue and red bar representing their advantage over each other, respectively. As beneficial actions are taken, such as defeating enemy commanders, capturing camps, or inflicting demoralizing actions on the enemy, Jutland's advantage grows.
The greater the advantage is on Jutland's side, action gauges may fill up faster and positive potentials are more likely to trigger while reducing the chances of negative potentials triggering. Enemies are also more likely to gain negative emotions.
This also applies to Ruz if it gains the advantage as reinforcements arrive, party members are knocked unconscious, or major bosses appear on the field.
Free Battles[]
Certain optional battles will appear on the map with Jutish and Ruzi forces facing off against each other. Depending on the situation represented by the state of war for the mission, both sides will be at a stalemate, or Ruz or Jutland will have the advantage over each other. If Ruz is at an advantage and too much time is taken, they will win the encounter and the territory will be under their control.
Additionally, some optional battles are defense missions that require defending a base camp. If enemy soldiers infiltrate the camp, the state of war will gradually shift in Ruz's favor until they are eliminated or the gauge is fully in Ruz's favor, which leads to an automatic mission fail.
