Off the Rails is the fourth hard skirmish of Valkyria Chronicles 4. This uses the same map as Chapter 07: A March in the Snow, Part 2. It is unlocked after the first three hard skirmishes have been completed.
Topography[]
Briefing[]
Location: Imperial Logistics Base
Description: 4 Supply caches were transported to their logistics base. Enemy Engineers might have precise intel on cache locations, but beware of poor visibility--and an incoming train.
Strategy[]
- While an engineer must first be killed to receive an indicator of where the supply cache is on the map, it is not required. As such, prioritize the engineers first to collect all four locations.
- There are multiple locations each engineer can link to, refer to the map for the locations (Editor's note: please find the fourth engineer and alternative locations of the fourth cache, I got lucky. Marked them on the map as best as I could).
- Due to the limitations of the map, tanks do not have much range. An APC can still move multiple characters a short distance.
- The Southern most train's mortar cannon can hit the Hafen directly in the radiator. On turn one this is blocked by a breakable wall, so care must be taken to move the Hafen to a safer location by the end of turn 2.
The mission here requires you to find all four supply cache, the location of these supply crates is entirely random. with eight possible spawn points. To know the location of the supply cache, you will need to kill an enemy engineer on this map.
An exploit you can use is to save your game first and look for these engineers and kill them to know the location of the supply cache beforehand.
If you're aiming to complete the mission in a single turn, deploying all your leader units along with 2 extra scouts is recommended. Due to a large number of enemy forces in this map, using the All Unit Defend order is required to complete this map.
Start the mission by using the order, All Unit Defend'. and save your game. Then look for the engineers, the closest one is hidden near the camp, just directly south of your base. The other closest engineer is directly to the west side of your base. However, on the left side of the base has lancer as an enemy ace. Killing this ace will drop the VB PL 5(e) anti-tank lance, so its probably more recommended to bring Raz to the west side of base.
The next closest engineer is located to the east side of your base. This engineer is just right behind an enemy shocktrooper.
The last engineer is found by taking the southeast route, that will take you the east corner of the map. This engineer is probably the hardest to reach, and will probably require a leader scout to bring another scout to reach there.
Once you have learned the location of the supply cache, you can reload your save file during the beginning of the mission and go directly after the supply cache while saving your CP from looking for the engineers. With the All Unit Defend Order, your units should able to withstand taking enemy crossfire to look for the objective target.
If you manage to get an A rank, Marie will give you the Survival Knife accessory.

Note: It is technically possible to "farm" the turrets of the north and south trains as long as one of their turrets remains operational, as they will continue to respawn (assuming the tracks haven't been redirected).
