Maxim (マクシム Makushimu?) is a young military officer in the Rus Empire's Imperial Army who was handpicked by Emperor Claudius. He was the second prince of a nation who was conquered by Rus Empire, called Ipseria.

Prior to the events of the game, Maxim was known as Prince Laertes, prince of the Kingdom of Ipseria. Following Emperor Klaudiusz's invasion of Ipseria and the deaths of Laertes's parents, he is taken prisoner by the Ruzi Empire and is experimented upon with augmentation.

He was born in Empire territory and became a young soldier when he was selected for military officer training by Emperor Claudius himself. He is able to use Magic Arts of overwhelming power as the result of a Ragnite implant experiment.[1]

  • Laertes is one of a number of references the game makes to William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. In the play Laertes is the son of Claudius and kills Hamlet.
  • His situation, having no country of his own and serving the Empire, is similar to General Jaeger's situation described in Chapter 12 of the first game.
  • It is possible to have him in your squad in new game +.
