The Hilde, for all its poor accuracy, is actually incredibly useful in the early parts of the main storyline, giving shocktroopers the range they need in order to delete opposition beyond the enemy's early-game interception range and make up for their incredibly low AP. However, it loses its effectiveness in the middle and late-game, not having enough accuracy compared to other ace weapons while being outranged and overpowered by other DLC weaponry. Nevertheless, the Hilde makes early-game Valkyria Chronicles 3 far easier.

Strategy[]

  • In '''VC3''', light machine guns almost completely outclass their heavy MG counterparts; heavy MGs have, at most, 80 anti-infantry power, while the light machinegun has longer range and more shots (as in '''VC2'') but they can, in Hurricane MkII form, have 116 anti-infantry and anti-armor power. This effectively makes heavy MGs obsolete both offensively and defensively, for light MGs not just out-range, but also overpower them. The only advantage that Heavy MGs have over Light MGs is their much higher accuracy.
  • While shocktrooper submachine guns have a short official range, anti-personnel boosts, such as potentials, can actually significantly increase the range they are effective at. This is because bullets don't actually disappear past their official range; the damage per bullet is simply heavily reduced (damage drop-off) the further the bullet goes beyond its official range. Potential anti-personnel boosts reduces drop-off enough that machine guns can genuinely be threats beyond their official range.

Trivia[]

  • Most of the rifles added as 'machine guns' are, to modern terms, more sub- machine guns, assault rifles or light machine guns rather than 'real' machine guns.
  • 'Held' is the dutch word for 'hero'; the Held, according to Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks, was the machine gun Dahau wielded for the majority of VC3, except in the final story chapter of VC3 (Chapter 20: Nameless Again (Pt.2)), in which Dahu wields a unique, flame-adorned gatling gun.
  • The Hildr, Idun SP B, Alvitr, and Bragi are DLC machine guns that first appeared in Valkyria Chronicles 2 as weapons wielded by the Gallian Revolutionary Army. If their appearances in Valkyria Chronicles 3 are canonical, they have some rather interesting lore implications, for they could provide some in-universe hints on how the GRA first gained strength.
  • The design of the MAJ-X series machine gun of VC1 seems to influence two weapons in VC3
    • In Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks, the Squall-A series machine gun is illustrated using artwork identical to the MAJ-X, which contradicts the Squall-A's in-game model.
    • Later versions of the Mags-Series machine gun in VC3 resembles early versions of the MAJ-X, but lacks the Maj's attack down debuffs.
  • Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks lists a machine gun called the "Squall-R", a weapon that is unavailable for use in-game by the player. Early series Squall-R's receive their own unique design (similar to the Bragi), while late-series Squall-R's (4-F) instead use artwork similar to the Mags-30R submachine gun. This could be either a translation error on the part of the book's writers or a possible clue to the Squall and Bragi's heritage.

In Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks, the MAGS-A series is illustrated using artwork similar to the MAGS-MXX series machine gun of VC1, suggesting a shared heritage or perhaps being the same weapon under different names. This is further reflected by the in-game model's similarity to the MAGS-MXX, such as their solid sylindrical gun shroud (possibly a water jacket) and similar trigger layout; the main noticeable difference is simply their paintjobs.
