Cova the Peacock (厚着のコーヴァ Atsugi no kōvu~a?) is a Grenadier Elite Ace found in Valkyria Chronicles 4. He is part of the strike team attacking the immobilized Centurion in the battle mission Defense of the Centurion.

Gameplay[]

Cova guards an Imperial camp in a raised area surrounded by rock walls in the upper-middle of the map, just above and to the right of one of the "high ground" areas on the Command Mode map. He is fairly easily reached by using the Hafen's cannon or a grenade to destroy the ice wall above and to the left of Squad E's base camp. A Shocktrooper and a Scout behind a sandbag wall must be circumvented on the way to him.

Since he is a Grenadier, getting under his firing range will mean he no longer turns to face opponents, and so it is very easy to get behind him for a surprise attack, though his dodge is fairly mediocre for an Ace and so he can often be taken out from the front. It is also possible to take him out with a Grenadier if he has already been spotted.

Reward[]

VB GW 2B(e)

Defeating him rewards the player with a VB GW 2B(e), a low-level Imperial anti-tank Mortar: this is a little strange since Cova himself does not even have an anti-tank Mortar, instead using a perfectly ordinary VB GW 2 general-purpose Mortar. Unlike most other captured Imperial Mortars, its Interception fire is not more accurate than its aimed fire.

It is significantly more powerful than the Elias-series mortars the player has access to at this point in the game, at the cost of range and precision. Curiously, despite being an anti-tank mortar it has the Speed Down status effect on its Interception fire. Despite this, it also means it can continue damaging tanks while they're on the move without immediately halting it.
