"Turning the tide of battle in Valkyria Revolution is Brunhilde, one of the last of the ancient and powerful Valkyrur, magical beings with near limitless power. She’s bound by oath to the enemy forces and players will have to figure out how to defeat her."
—SEGA Press Release Description

Brunhilde (ブリュンヒルデ Buryunhirude?) is a Valkyria who sided with the Ruzhien Empire and wields a massive scythe in battle. She is one of the main antagonists in Valkyria Revolution.

Story

"An immortal entity known as the Valkyria whose alchemical power, called a "galdr," brings death to all who hear it. She serves Emperor Klaudiusz, who has deployed the godlike power of this "Reaper" to crush any nation that dares to oppose Ruz."
—Website Description

Bruhilde's story is told primarily through entries created in a history book held by one of the narrators of the truth behind the Five Traitors. It is revealed that long ago, Brunhilde committed a "terrible sin" and was bound to a ring and is forced to answer to whoever has it. In Valkyria Revolution, the ring is held by Emperor Klaudiusz who uses it to bend her considerable powers to his will. Maria Schmiechel, captured by the emperor and his companions years earlier, was forced to become her vessel.

It is later discovered that Maria Schmiechel's consciousness lives on and occasionally confronts Brunhilde during moments of solace. Because the two share the same body, Maria has come to know of Brunhilde's pain and longing for her family which the Valkyrur tries her best to deflect saying she has no "need" for such emotions.

Through their conversations, it is eventually revealed Brunhilde's "sin" was falling in love with a mortal man and having a child (a daughter named Aslaug) by him. For this, she was punished with "others" and bound to a ring to serve out their sentence. Who bound them and what that sentence ultimately was is never revealed only that it made her a prisoner forced to do the bidding of whoever held the ring regardless of their "disposition" and willing to pay the price in using it.

As a pure Valkyrur, Brunhilde's considerable power made her all but invincible in battle and ultimately lethal to any army that faced her. She was nicknamed 'The Reaper' because of her ability to visit death to entire armies using her voice. It was only when Princess Ophelia felt compelled to sing during such a confrontation that Brunhilde's voice was nullified to her surprise. This forced the Valkyrur to eventually retreat, however in private, she recognized Ophelia's power as that of her long lost daughter's, calling it the 'Azure Flame'. Brunhilde was tormented over the memory of her daughter, forced by her sentence to do everything in her power to snuff out the Azure Flame and all connected with it, to keep the world from destroying itself.

Brunhilde retained her own will and thoughts regardless of what the Emperor controlled and regarded both his empire and the rest of the world as trapped in a cycle of destruction that began long ago, having learned nothing. Despite what she was forced to do, she secretly harbored a desire to break this cycle. At the same time, however, as she was confronted by Ophelia and others determined to stop her, Brunhilde fought to remain a part of the world in order to fulfill her secret goals.

Following her defeat at the hands of the Amleth, she reverts back into the form of the woman who served as her vessel, Maria Schmeichel.
